Greta West strikes at Wangaratta
Wednesday, 20 September 2017 - Madam Stryker kicked off a winning double for Greta West Stud with a gutsy victory at Wangaratta on Tuesday.
Jockey Jamie Mott took the initiative when the pace came out of the Julie Milson Memorial (2000m) and she defied running down in the final furlong. “They were going too slow up front so I decided to take off at the 1200m,” Mott explained. “She quickened nicely and was always in for the fight.”
Madam Stryker (4m Stryker – Stagerush by Giant’s Causeway) was a $20,000 buy for trainer Mick Sell out of the Greta West draft at the 2015 Inglis Premier Sale. It was her third win since a Wangaratta maiden this time last year and she also collected a VOBIS bonus for connections.
Her dam Stagerush has a yearling colt by Unencumbered and was bred back to Keep The Faith last year.
Keep The Faith sprinter-miler Get Ya Kicks completed a Greta West double in the Crownbet Hcp (1590m). It was his 7th win for local trainer James Fraser and the first since a spell on the sidelines for apprentice Mitch Aitken.
“It’s good to come back a winner on this horse,” Aitken said. “I won on him when I was still claiming 3kg and he gave me a good feel going down to the gates. He usually half misses the kick but jumped well today and then took a run between the leaders in the straight.”
Fraser bought Get Ya Kicks as a foal at the 2012 Inglis Great Southern Sale. His dam Route Sixty Six (Redoute’s Choice) is related to Group 1 winner St. Covet.
Keep The Faith (Sunday Silence) stands at Greta West for a $3,300 fee with Master Of Design ($5,500) and King Of Prussia ($2,200).
